Glutathione (GSH for short) is a tripeptide composed of glutathione, cysteine and glycine, which contains sulfhydryl and has antioxidant effect and integrated detoxification effect. Glutathione plays an important role in the biochemical defense system of human body and has various physiological functions. Its main physiological function is to scavenge free radicals in the human body, and as an important antioxidant in the body, it protects the sulfhydryl groups in many proteins and enzymes.
The structure of GSH contains a reactive mercapto-sh, which is prone to dehydrogenation by oxidation, which makes it the main free radical scavenger in the body. For example, when a small amount of H2O2 is generated in cells, GSH reduces H2O2 to H2O under the action of glutathione peroxidase, which itself is oxidized to GSSG. GSSG is reduced to GSH by H under the action of glutathione reductase existing in liver and red blood cells, so that free radical scavenging can be carried out continuously in the body. Not only does glutathione eliminate free radicals in the body, it also improves immunity. Glutathione is healthy, anti-aging, and works better in older, sluggish cells than younger ones.
GSH also protects hemoglobin from oxidation by hydrogen peroxide, free radicals, etc., allowing it to continue to function normally as it transports oxygen. Under the action of oxidants such as hydrogen peroxide, part of hemoglobin in red blood cells is oxidized to trivalent iron, which turns hemoglobin into methemoglobin and thus loses its oxygen carrying capacity. Reduced glutathione can bind directly to oxidants such as hydrogen peroxide to produce water and oxidized glutathione, as well as reduce methemoglobin to hemoglobin.
Glutathione is abundant in human red blood cells, which is of great significance to protect the homocyte of proteins on the red cell membrane from being reduced and hemolysis. Glutathione protects the -sh group in the enzyme molecule, which is conducive to the play of the enzyme activity, and can restore the activity function of the -sh group in the destroyed enzyme molecule, so as to restore the activity of the enzyme. Glutathione also inhibits the fatty liver that ethanol can produce on the liver (if you're a drinker and your face is sallow, use it early; you're probably an alcoholic liver).
Glutathione has a strong protective effect on the symptoms of leukopenia caused by radiation and radioactive drugs. Glutathione can combine with toxic compounds, heavy metal ions, or carcinogens entering the body and promote their elimination, neutralizing and detoxifying effects. Glutathione has a broad spectrum of detoxification, which can not only be used as a drug, but also as a basis for functional foods, and is widely used in functional foods such as anti-aging, immune enhancement and anti-tumor. Glutathione drugs are widely used in clinical practice. In addition to the use of sulfhydryl to chelate heavy metals, fluoride, mustard gas and other toxic toxins, it is also used in hepatitis, hemolytic diseases, as well as keratitis, cataract and retinal diseases, as a treatment or adjuvant treatment of drugs.

Vitamin C is also an important antioxidant in the body. Because vitamin C can reversibly hydrogenate or dehydrogenate, vitamin C plays an important role in many REDOX reactions in the body. For example, the active group of many enzymes is sulfhydryl (-sh), and vitamin C can maintain -sh in a reductive state while maintaining enzyme activity. Vitamin C can transform oxidized glutathione into reduced glutathione (GSH) and reduce the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) produced by body metabolism. Vitamin C also protects vitamins A, E and some B vitamins from oxidation.
Therefore, the use of glutathione, when combined with vitamin C, can improve its efficacy. For this reason, glutathione can restore pearly whiteness to women, and it can fade stubborn spots, remove wrinkles, increase skin elasticity, shrink pores, dilute pigment, and whiten the whole body.
